What a positive surprise!  My nights in the Mu Hotel in Ipoh added to the overall great impression I had of my stay in Ipoh!

Good location, because it was still within walking distance to old town and I did walk it several times, despite the hotel offering a shuttle service at certain times of the day. I did take it twice into old town and thought it was a great service of the hotel. On the way back I walked always.

The room was really huge and very modern. Loved the modern design! However, as with all the designer Hotels or Boutique Hotels, the rooms look awesome but are not very functional! There was no drawers to place your cloths in. I still lived out of my suitcase. The only closet with a few hangers was basically used for some extra pillows and an ironing board. The only shelf was a bit too high to be useful. Very comfortable bed! Great views of Ipoh and from the rooftop, or rather from the bar level,  the view was even better.

I loved the service from check-in to check-out. Very friendly staff which even advices you to take an umbrella because it could always rain in Ipoh. Breakfast was a nice buffet with plenty of options in a bright and clean setting. That was also the only meal I could have in the hotel since they did not offer any lunch or dinner service. Which was a bit unfortunate, because I would have loved to dine on their top level bar with a view over Ipoh. So, for dinners I had to leave the hotel each night.

I could not really find anything to criticize, except for the room cleaning, which happens far to late in the day. If you left the hotel room early in the morning and toured around all day, you came back in the late afternoon to a room which has still not been serviced. So, no rest or shower possible because your towels would still be on the floor in the bathroom. They seem to be seriously understaffed!  The free WiFi did not really work, maybe due to the location of my room at the end of the corridor. I ran a few speedtests and they came in with 0,91 Mbps download and 1,43 Mbps upload, so I used my own local SIM card. WiFi worked fine in the breakfast area or in the lobby though. Other than that, a perfect stay and I would definitely go back to Mu Hotel again in the future.

In my own rating system I would rate the Mu Hotel as follows:

Location 5 of 5 (as a conscious decision)

Room Size 5 of 5
WiFi free and working 2 of 5
Breakfast yummy 5 of 5
Staff competency and friendliness 5 of 5
Safety box in the room and adequate size 5 of 5
Bathroom functionality 5 of 5
Room design and functionality 4 of 5
Sounds 5 of 5
